What skills do
Skills are cognitive directives. They do not register executable tools, make network requests, or install code. When a prompt matches an enabled skill, AI Plate adds the skill’s prompt instructions to the reasoning context before the model responds.
| Extension type | Best for | Execution |
|---|---|---|
| Skill | Tone, reasoning method, review policy, workflow constraints | Prompt instructions added to the selected model |
| Plugin | Callable tools, files, artifacts, custom UI | Inside AI Plate runtime |
| Connector | External service or desktop application access | Outside service through REST or WebSocket |
1. Author a .skill.md file
Create a Markdown file with YAML frontmatter followed by the directive body. Use camelCase alwaysActive in imported files. The importer accepts name, title, id, description, category, triggers, keywords, and tags. Triggers are comma- or semicolon-separated.

category: "quality_security"
description: "Creates a cautious, review-first plan for reclaiming disk space."
triggers: "free up space, disk cleanup, c drive, storage cleanup"
alwaysActive: false

# Careful Disk Cleanup Planner
When the user asks to free disk space, begin with a review-first plan.
1. Ask which drive or folders may be inspected, unless the user has already named them.
2. List large files and categories with paths and sizes before suggesting any removal.
3. Never delete files, empty a recycle bin, uninstall software, or run cleanup commands without explicit confirmation for the exact action.
4. Protect system folders, application data, personal documents, and files with uncertain purpose.markdown2. Import, enable, and test
- Open Settings → Skills & Directives.
- Choose Import Skill (.md), select the file, and make sure the skill is enabled.
- Keep Smart Filter selected, then use the prompt tester or ask: “Give me a plan to free up space on C: drive.”
- The skill should be listed in the chat turn’s applied-skills metadata when its trigger matches.
Use Always Active only for a directive you want applied to every prompt. It is separate from the global Always Active filter mode.
